Carole P. Roman Review

Age: 7-12 years

About: Carole P. Roman is the author of these books that I was very excited to review. She actually started her writing career on a dare from one of her sons. She was named Kirkus Reviews’ Best in 2012 for that first book she ever wrote, Captain No Beard. She now has many more books written and another Kirkus award in 2015.

The Oh Susannah books were a joy to read. These books feature Susannah Logan, who isn’t having a good day. In, Oh Susannah: It’s in the Bag, book Susannah Logan is having a bad day, starting with the fact she had unfinished homework in her bag. Then hurried through breakfast and given a banana she didn’t want, she throws it in her bad as well. Then on the bus to school her friend Lola gives her an invitation to a sleep over. Which she doesn’t want to go to because Lola’s brother always scares them. Her day continues to her worse. Including a letter home from gym class.  To end the school day with her zipper on her backpack ripping and sending her over the edge. She ends up having a nightmare about her bag exploding and her parents rush in. It leads them to be able to have a conversation about her stressful day.

Oh Susannah: Things that go Bump is about her getting invited to her friends house for her birthday. She really wanted to go but she was afraid. Her friends brother has told her that it is haunted. Though through friendship she is able to face her fear and go to the sleep over. She ends up having a blast and learns that little brothers can be annoying sometimes and sometimes they can be great. She also learns that friendship can help each other overcome their fears together.

The coloring book goes with the chapter books. You color pages that go alone with them and also draw your own images on things. Like one was something you might be afraid of. It helps tie in the book and give a little activity to have some deeper thought to what your child just read.

The kids really enjoyed the books as well as getting some coloring in. We think these are some fun easy chapter books for a quick read or a good starting point when merging into chapter books. They stay interesting and leave you wanting to know more till you finish the book. Carole P. Roman is a an amazing author and I don’t think you will be disappointed in any of her books you choose.

Be sure to check her out on social media.

Zirrly Review

Vendor: Zirrly
Product: Super Beads - Mega Pack
Price: $18.98
Agee: 10 and over or help with parents or older siblings.
About: I was so very excited to get to try out Super Beads from Zirrly. Our family got to try the Mega Pack so we could use our own imagination on what to make. The kit comes with all you need to make your creations. The kit includes the following; spray bottle, puzzle trays, plastic alignment tool, pattern cards, instructions, and the beads. The beads are nontoxic so you don’t have to worry when someone steals one and tries to lick it. The beads are designed to stick together when sprayed with water. This allows the development of your creatures, even in 3D.

We had a blast trying to think of what to make. My kids went on the search of the internet to find other things they could make other than what the practice cards had. These are awesome for some fine motor skills practice. You can also put these together and not spritz just for some practice on getting good at putting them together. My kids that played with these ranged from 4 to 13 and each one of them had a great time. You have to watch little ones that might want to spray to much water because they will just get to slick and not stick either. Then you end up with a big messy pile of slick beads. These also work for hand eye coordination. There is a lot of detail to watch and work on with these. And my kids ended up making several different 3-D creatures. They just kept stacking them on top of each other making one last layer on the outside so that the object grew in size.

Be sure to check out my other crewmembers dead. Some of them got kits to make specific creatures in 3-D some of them got the mega packs like I did as well. You never know what imagination might show up from another family that you guys may enjoy as well. There is so much fun and limitless ideas that you can make. My kids ended up giving them away is little gifts to their dad.

Magic Stix Washable Markers Review

Vendor:
The Pencil Grip, Inc.
Age: anyone that enjoys coloring!
Price: $14.72

Magic Stix Washable Markers are awesome. They come in a 24 pack that is in its own cart case. These markers claim to not dry out even without the cap on for seven days. While we did not actually test this out we could tell that they are very moist marker which would allow them to stay wet longer. And we did get much use of them being out and lids being off of them for a while between switching colors. They are also nontoxic as well as noscent. Which is great because some markers have a strong scent that hurts my head after awhile.  The kids had a blast testing them out and drawing things. We did notice that you have to use a thicker type of drawing paper because the markers do believe through to the backside or to the page under it. Also it is a good idea to test some of the colors before putting them on your drawing because some look a little different than the color on the marker tube. The carring case was nice because it kept them all together. It was flat and compact so you could just put it on the bookshelf. I think these are great for any crafters especially ones that like organization. You can also order a 12 pack if you feel the 24 pack is to much.

The kids enjoyed coloring all kinds of things. My daughter enjoyed coloring in her mandala book. And when the little kids colored on them selves it was easily washed off. They also enjoy taking it on the go being able to carry it to the car.

This is out of her mandala book and as you can see the colors are vibrant and bold. Even with the thick card stock paper they still bleed through. Which isn’t an issue for these pictures since they have nothing on the backside of them. We also just make sure to put more paper under anything we are coloring.

My little ones made little puppets with the markers and popsicle sticks. They had made several but when I would go to get pictures they would hide them haha.

If you or your children like to color with markers you should check these out! Be sure to check them out on social media outlets as well as what my fellow crew members had to say about it below.
