Jepson Art Museum
Today we went on a grand homeschool adventure. I was a little bit worried about taking three kids, seven and under, to an art museum. However, I want to thank the Jepson Center for the wonderful place they have in Savannah, GA. There was a whole floor for the kids to do hands on learning and play as well as a whole room of old school games and computers. I will admit I got stuck at the Atari and the original Nintendo stations. Playing Mario Brothers took me back to the day that I would climb by my brother and play for hours on end. Then it made me feel old that I was infect seining something in a MUSEUM that I played with as a kid.
If you are ever in Savannah, GA I highly recommend this place for the whole family. Even those that are not into art! There is something for everyone to enjoy. Thank you Jepson Center for giving us a great day!
The magnetic wall was a hit. They were to put things on the wall to make their "own" sculpture.
I personaly loved this part. They had peices of paper to make your own design on for the shirt.
This was our addition to the shirt.

50 States Notebooking
So next week we are starting our Social Studies Unit on the 50 states. The kids are excited as we got to travel to several new states over the summer. They really enjoyed counting how many states we would drive through in one day during our travels. It was a lot of driving but it helped keep in interesting. I try to let the kids lead the direction in the subject we teach and they seem to want to go this direction. So during my searching (since I penny pinch and get the bulk of my teaching as free material) online I found this great site. This has great notebbooking pages as well as projects that is geared towards kids of all ages. Check this site out 50 States Notebook for some great resources. I think you will find everything you need. We will be starting with a full US map and then start going into individual states starting with the one we currently live in.
Images were found at http://www.freeusandworldmaps.com/ which also offers free resources.

About: The Beginner's Bible from Zonderkidz is a great way to introduce children to Bible stories. This is actually a revised version of this text. I was lucky enough to get to review it and now the updated version as well. This new version has better art work. The Bible has over 90 stories in it. The stories are all typed in large easy to read print. The new vibrant three dimensional art work just adds that special touch to keep the kids interested. There are also some great resources that come with the Bible stories.

These are wonderful and help encourage the love of learning more stories. With the intended age range starting at 4 there are coloring pages and games they could play after you read aloud to them. for the younger independent readers there are fun games, videos, and puzzles to go along with the stories.
We truly enjoyed this book. My kids in this age range are not independent readers so we read the stories aloud to them. The large print made it much easier for these eyes to read while holding the book far away from me to fit all the little eyes that wanted to see. The amazing new 3D art was truly a hit for everyone. my little 3yo was all about the cool pictures. He especially liked Jonah being eaten by the whale.
The boom contains 512 glossy pages. The earlier version had matte paper which tears easier with rough fingers. the glossy pages seem easier to turn and just make the whole thing pop out more. There is a dedication page to put your child's name in it. Next there is a Table of Contents so you are able to quickly find stories if you didn't want to read through from front to back. I also enjoyed finding the dictionary in the back that contained some of the words that kids may not know what meant. They also made good for some spelling words for the older kids so they could be evolved with the lessons as well.
I would read each story to everyone. the book follows just like an full Bible with the Old Testament with Genesis on to the New Testament. After I would read we would look in the dictionary for any words we may have come across that we did not know. We would then use that time to talk about the story we read and how we felt about it. I can't blame my kids having a love for the story of Jonah and the whale, it was always my favorite as well. We talked about how it would feel to be alone in the whale not knowing what would happen and how we would survive. We talked about how sometimes we get in situations in our life that we think there is no hope but we have to remember to call on God. I just absolutely love that these stories make it much easier for the little kids to understand the stories and we can go over hem as a whole family and not leave the little ones in the dark about trying to explain them.
I think this is a great Bible story book for anyone with younger kids or even hose that struggle with reading or have delays in reading comprehension. It really is a wonderful book and ypu and your child will love it.

What about eggs?
Enough with the mouthwash, how about some eggs?
Apply egg whites to the lines under your eyes and around your mouth. As it dries, it temporarily tightens up the skin, making the lines less apparent.
For a simple skin moisturizer, combine 1 egg yolk with 3/4 cup of milk. Apply it to your face with your fingertips using a circular motion. Leave it on for about 5 minutes, then rinse. Store any unused portion in the refrigerator, covered, and use it within a week.
For softening and soothing facial mix 1 egg yolk with 2 TB of honey and 2 TB of mashed avocado. Apply the mixture to your face and leave on for 30 minutes, rinse with warm water and pat dry.
To keep your fingernails looking great, beat 1 egg yolk in a small bowl and soak your nails for about 5 minutes. Rinse and then buff.
Split ends? Mix 1tsp of honey with 2tbl of garlic oil. Beat in 1 egg yolk. Covered your hair in the mixture and put a shower cap on. Wait 30 minutes then rinse and shampoo as normal.
Need a protein enriched conditioner? Beat 1 egg white until foamy then stir in 5 TB of plain natural yogurt. Apply to hair and leave for 15 minutes and rinse with warm water.
